Silicone Care Instructions

Handling Your Silicone Baby

Your silicone baby is a work of art, an heirloom-quality collectible that needs to be handled gently. Since our babies are made from the highest quality, platinum silicone, they will last for decades! If cared for properly, your new baby will bring you many years of joy. A good rule of thumb is to handle your silicone baby as you would a real live infant. Silicone babies are not meant to be handled by young children, except under close supervision. Be sure to support your baby's head and do not pick your baby up by the arms, legs, or head. Doing so could cause damage to the silicone pieces. Be careful not to force or pull any parts of the silicone. While silicone is very durable to normal handling, extreme force can cause tearing. Especially around the joints and wrinkle creases.

Bathing Silicone Baby Dolls

While bathing a silicone doll is not recommended, from time to time, your silicone baby may need a bath to remove bits of lint or dust. Wash the baby with warm water and mild liquid soap, taking care not to get water in the eye cavity of an awake baby. For cloth body babies, wash one limb at a time, taking care to keep the cloth body dry. Gently use your fingers to wipe away anything that is stuck to the silicone and then rinse. Once clean, lay your baby on a low-lint towel to air dry, or gently pat dry with a paper towel. Spots where the doll's powder has rubbed away can become very attractive to lint, dust, and hair, so care should be taken to clean the area, and then more powder can be applied.

Powdering the Silicone

If, over time, your baby becomes shiny in some places, as it is very common with silicone dolls, or if you just want to give him or her an extra smooth and silky feel, you can powder your baby with a silica-based matting powder. I highly recommend our silicone baby matte powder, as I have been using it for years, and it gives a very smooth, soft texture. You will receive a sample jar with your order. There are also other matte powders that you can purchase. elsewhere. An easy way to apply the powder is to use a clean makeup brush and dust the brush lightly with the powder, and then onto the baby. It does not require very much powder - a little goes a long way. Lightly dab the areas you want to powder with the brush until your baby is evenly covered.

Caring for Baby's Hair

Your baby’s hair needs to be treated gently to keep it in good condition. Although I root the hair deeply to keep the hair as secure as possible, silicone babies have solid silicone heads, and it is not possible to glue the hair from within, as on a vinyl reborn baby doll. For this reason, you should never pull or be harsh with the hair. Your baby’s hair can be lightly moistened with water and conditioner using a spray bottle and gently brushed with a soft bristle baby hair brush or toothbrush when styling. We carry a baby powder scent leave-in conditioner that will detangle your baby’s hair while leaving it soft and smelling like a baby. If the hair requires washing, do so softly and without harsh scrubbing. Always be gentle with the hair to prevent hair from being pulled out. If your baby is rooted with Dark Mohair, it might bleed a bit from the hair dye used to dye the hair. Please take precautions when the hair is wet, so that it won’t damage the clothing or blanket. The bleeding will stop over time.

Using Bottles and Pacifiers

Many silicone babies can take a bottle or a pacifier, but be careful when using these. Excessive or forceful insertion and removal of pacifiers or bottles can cause damage to the mouth area. Never shove or force an item into your baby’s mouth; always be slow and gentle with the pacifier. Do not use pacifiers that are larger than the size recommended for your specific baby. Take care not to pry the mouth too far because extreme or repeated force can cause tearing. You will receive a sample lip care silicone moisturizer to use on your baby’s lips when taking a pacifier or bottle. If your baby has a drink and wet system, only feed clear liquid and allow the baby to fully drain when finished feeding.

Baby's Eyes

If dust happens to build up on the eyes of an awake baby, the eyes can be gently dusted with a soft brush, such as a small clean makeup brush, or with a small cotton swab, such as a Q-tip. It is not recommended to wipe dust with a wet cloth because you could accidentally trap moisture around the eyes or damage the eyelashes.

Reborn Baby Care Instructions

Your new baby is not a toy and should not be given to children under 9 yrs old to play with unless supervised by an adult. He/She is a collector’s item that should be handled delicately as you would with a real baby. Their head must be supported in the same way you would support a real baby’s head, and should never be handled by the limbs.

Your baby has beautiful hand-rooted hair that has been sealed securely. You can comb it and style it gently. A soft infant brush or toothbrush is best for brushing the hair. You can spray our gentle leave-in conditioner before styling to detangle the hair. Do NOT pull on your baby’s hair when styling. If your baby is rooted with black hair, do NOT change his/her clothes while the hair is wet, this is because black hair dye remaining could still be on the baby’s hair, and the hair might still bleed, damaging the baby’s clothes or blanket. You could carefully wash your baby’s hair to make sure it would not bleed. Please be very gentle. Do NOT use any type of heat on your baby’s hair, such as blowers, curlers, or flat iron as this will damage the hair and or vinyl.

Your baby should be kept out of the heat and cold, especially from the sun. Extreme heat or cold could damage the vinyl and destroy the reborn. Your baby should be kept in dry conditions. Do NOT submerge your baby in water because they could get mold. To clean your baby once a month, wet a soft cloth and clean your baby’s limbs softly without rubbing. You should wash your hands or use sanitizer before handling your baby to avoid getting your baby shiny and avoid getting your natural body oils on the vinyl, which, over time, may cause the baby’s paint to come off. Do NOT apply baby lotion, oil, or powder on your baby’s face and limbs. Avoid rubbing dark clothing on your baby, as it will tint their limbs and the damage is irreversible. Make sure all dark colors are washed to avoid this, but best not to use dark clothes on your baby. You may also use baby mittens and socks when changing the baby to avoid any color dye. If your baby gets dyed with tint, it cannot be removed.

Your Baby is equipped with a magnetic pacifier. These magnets are very powerful earth magnets. They should not be used near any electronics or computer equipment, and they should never be used near someone who has a pacemaker.

Open Eye Babies

It is best to avoid handling your baby’s eyelashes. Do NOT poke or pull the baby’s eyes or lashes. If your baby’s eyelashes should ever come loose, you can reapply them using clear glue and a toothpick or tweezers.

Your baby is entirely made by hand; many, many hours are put into making every little detail on them, and they are made with lots of love! Follow these care instructions and you will have your new baby for many years.
